Just got back from an unforgettable week of cycling in the Dolomites with Marmot Tours, and I can't recommend it enough. Everything was super well organized, and a huge part of what made the trip so great was our incredible guides, Scott and Heidi. They were absolute stars, always calm, upbeat, and somehow everywhere at once with snacks, water, mechanical help, or just a good laugh when you needed it most. They created such a positive vibe and really made the whole group feel looked after and supported. The riding was next-level. The climbs were definitely challenging (looking at you, Passo Giau and Fedaia), but the views and the sense of accomplishment made every bit of effort worth it. Each day brought a new adventure, and the scenery was just stunning from start to finish. The hotel was comfy, the food was delicious (especially after a long day in the saddle), and the whole group got on really well. If you're thinking about a cycling holiday with epic climbs, jaw-dropping scenery, and the best support crew you could ask for, Marmot Tours is the way to go. The day of climbing ventoux [the guides] took all the stress out of climbing which meant I could focus on the job at hand. It was like a military operation for them but my clothes were always where they needed to be. I asked if there was a cut off time and they said as long as it’s light you can be on the mountain. Always a fantastic action packed week, with the best cycling options, and the best support. I work long hours and so to have a tailor made week long holiday where all I have to do is cycle, eat sleep, repeat, with the best researched routes, with accommodation food and support covered, is an absolute privilege. What a fantastic trip! With modern day wayfinding on every phone, you really don't need a "guide," what a cyclist on a big climb in a foreign country needs is support, and that is what Marmot does so well! I usually saw the vans multiple times on the climbs and always had what I needed, whether it was more clothes, food, water, sun cream, or just encouragement. The guides take their job seriously, but don't take themselves too seriously, keeping the trip fun, even during a grueling climb. My first experience of Alpine climbs, the route introduced the climbs well by tackling the Cormet de Roseland before the iconic climbs of Iseran, Telegraphe and Galibier. The half day including Alpe d'Huez was ideally timed on day 4. Having the wonderful Lacets de Montvernier as part of the challenge route motivated many to do the challenge route on the final day, its relatively lower height gain (compared to other challenge days) meant it was a great way to finish.

This is my second Marmot organised cycling holiday (I did the Raid Pyrenean in 2022). Mary, who was with us in 2022 and Helen were absolutely fantastic. I expected to do the challenge routes but opted for the shorter routes, long lunches, coffee breaks and a more relaxing holiday and it was great. I feel Marmot did a great job of covering lots of territory (and climbs) in the Picos. Having the (possible) opportunity to do the Lagos and Angliru in the same itinerary was a bonus. Excellent - The level of support is top class. In those extreme temperatures I really don't think the rides would have been possible otherwise (especially since so few bars are open!). There is a high level of support and care without ever treating clients like children.

The opportunity to cycle in beautiful countryside on iconic roads was too good to turn down. For example, it was privilege to cycle on the Sella Ronda route and to look at the views at the top of the Gaio. I fully support Marmots philosophy of supporting the local economy. I really liked stopping for coffee and lunch in local cafes. Not least the homemade Strudel and exceptional coffee. I liked the fact that all abilities were catered for, as well as the different routes each day. The tour guides facilitated what you wanted to do.

Excellent - Everything was so well done. From the food, the briefs. I was equal slowest rider in the pack but with the excellent maps, detailed route and files downloaded into the Wahoo I was fine to ride at my own pace. I really appreciated the fact that it was supported, not guided and that we are all encouraged to ride in the way that will best get us through the challenge and not feel pressured to ride at another's pace. Providing the maps is important. I had no problems with the files on my Wahoo but on another tour we all had device fails at certain points but there were no written instructions to double check. I am very impressed by Marmot providing this extra service as it must create a lot of extra work but saves getting lost if something happens to your device. Another thing that makes the tour are the repeat happy customers that come back. They also help make it a pleasant riding experience.

Yes - good value for money - Compared to the other cycle holiday I did this was excellent value for money. It is a big help having dinners included in managing costs (plus after the strenuous riding you don't really want to think or hunt around for a restaurant).
